AMP Font Viewer

If you like using different fonts but don't want them all permanently installed, this piece of software offers an excellent solution: temporary installation. You can view all installed fonts (in full-sample and summary list modes) as well as folders of not-installed fonts, and have the option to temporarily install in the batch. Plus category designation for installed fonts.

BlogBridge

BlogBridge comes bundled with a whole load of feeds, most of which you'll want to delete, but it's pretty easy to add your own: the GUI is very smart and relatively intuitive plus you can choose to view the given webpage either natively or in your default browser. Holds the information on its own server, hence very useful for multi-location installations or just portability.

The program is constantly under development, and the current version is always available: keep up to date appropriately via the website's feed!

JRuler

This is one of those tools that comes in handy for many things - obviously working with images or web design, but there are other odd occasions when you might just want to know the dimensions of something on-screen. Keep a shortcut handy, such as on the QuickLaunch bar, and you'll find yourself using this often, with its keyboard shortcuts for flipping, changing units (e.g. pixels, inches, centimetres), zeroing and extending.

Rename Master

There are loads of file renaming programs to choose from, and I've tried one or two, but this one does pretty much all I need - comprehensive dialogues to add, replace and remove parts of both names and extensions, addition of controlled variable data (date/time, incremental suffix and more), easy file selection and configuration settings, very useful shell-integration (Explorer context-menu) plus it's pretty much self-explanatory to use. Highly recommended.

Stickies

The ultimate post-it/sticky notes software, offering pretty much as many features as one could wish for:

  • desktop residence
  • transparency
  • always on top
  • storage in categories
  • timed
  • attach to a window or webpage
  • search
  • hotkeys

Stickies Manager
TaskSwitch XP Pro

Full-featured extension for the familiar Windows Alt-Tab key combo, packed with customisation options:

  • option to run Alt-Tab list as sticky, but best not, in order to allow for selection via middle mouse scrolling
  • sticky version always available through hotkey combo (default Win-F12)
  • tailor the appearance to suit preferences/resources

Tasklist
XML Marker

I've tried a few XML-specific programs and this is the best I've found for navigating the oft tortuous structure of large .xml files. Smaller files are easily handled by a decent text editor or HTML software, but large ones can be difficult: XML Marker keeps a tight control on navigation via its 4-pane layout. Takes a bit of getting used to, but it's worth the learning curve. Perhaps lacking bells and whisltes, but until I find something fancier, this is my pick for what is rapidly becoming an essential program category for the tech-hobbyist.
